Modern and Vintage Bullhead Chronograph Watches
Produced in the 1960s and 1970s, bullhead chronograph watches were distinguished by chrono buttons placed on top of the case. As the name suggests, these unusual timepieces were inspired by bull horns, but, in fact, such a position of buttons was chosen with a more practical purpose. After all, to press the chrono buttons on top of the case is a bit more convenient for the wearer than when they are placed on the side.
Some of the best bullhead watches were produced by Omega, including the well-known Seamaster Bullhead from 1969. However, several other luxury watch brands also boast old vintage watches with such a case configuration. Let’s just remember the Junghans Olympic Bullhead Chronograph, the Bulova Bullhead Chronograph with the famous Chronomatic caliber, the Heuer Jacky Ickx Easy-Rider Bullhead Chronograph, and the Breitling Pupitre Bullhead Chronograph Asymmetric. Moreover, Japanese companies also produced a variety of high-quality bullhead chronograph watches at the time, with the Bullhead Chronograph Automatic by Citizen and the Bullhead Speedtimer Chronograph by Seiko as some of the most known.
It is interesting that in the 1960s – 1970s, bullhead watches were not very successful, which is perhaps the reason why their production was stopped completely or limited significantly. However, these days, vintage bullhead chronographs are extremely collectible and sought-after by connoisseurs of Haute Horlogerie and enthusiasts alike. Besides, several years ago, some of the best manufacturers returned to production of these instantly identifiable luxury watches, bringing them to a whole new level. One of such companies is Omega that now has a new series of bullhead chronograph watches in its range.
Omega Seamaster Bullhead Co-Axial Chronograph
Inspired by the original bullhead chronograph wrist watches, the new Seamasters have much in common with them. However, they are still modern luxury watches with some upgrades and modifications. First of all, a Seamaster Bullhead Co-Axial Chronograph is equipped with an in-house self-winding mechanical movement Omega 3113, with column wheel mechanism and luxury finish, while the original bullhead watch was powered by a hand-winding caliber 930. Secondly, the new model features flat chrono pushers instead of the round ones that can be found in the vintage model. Despite this, the overall Bullhead’s design has remained the same, including the distinctive sub-dials and inner bezel.
The new series of Omega Bullhead Co-Axial Chronograph watches includes three models: the “Rallye” with a silver-colored dial and a 60-minute scale on its bi-directional rotating inner bezel, the “Sport Chic” with a black dial and a 12-hour scale on the inner bezel, and the “Classic” with a white dial and a 24-hour scale on the inner bezel. Each of them comes with a brown or black leather strap, depending on the model.
Both vintage and modern bullhead chronograph watches are indeed high-quality timepieces with a cool design. Moreover, since all of them are highly collectible, we will be happy to buy them from you.
